Harry Potter Quilt Along - Week 30 with Bonus!

The Project of Doom 2015 Quilt Along on Fandom In Stitches photo PoD2015ComingSoon_zpsf2dd6a6c.jpg

Welcome to Week 30 in our  Harry Potter Bookcase Quilt Along!

Pat yourself on the back. You're ALMOST THERE!

By popular vote on The Project of Doom Facebook Group, I am also including the new (optional!) layouts today. This is the final post with new Project of Doom patterns by me in our Quilt Along. Look for the new Archive to post Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
Before you read any further, I just have to say THANK YOU. Thank you for quilting along, for sharing in the excitement, for participating in our Facebook Group, for sending in your signature blocks, for sending PoD blocks for The Linus Connection, for swapping fabric with fellow quilters, for sharing your photos with our Flickr Group, and for being both quilters and Harry Potter fans! Most of all, thank you for trusting me to bring this quilt along to you and for making sharing my patterns such a rewarding experience!

Still to come...
  • July 29 - The Project of Doom Pattern Archive (to include 2011 blocks, 2015 blocks and variations in one handy location!)
  • August 5, 2015 - Design Invitational Entries Posted. Please read the rules at the link before submitting your patterns. Designs that do not follow the rules will not be included.

And now... Week THIRTY!
What would Harry's bookcase be without a box of Bertie Bott's?

This has long been one of my favorite blocks. The 2015 version has been updated to be more symmetrical and the piecing has been simplified for a more accurate block.

If you won a piece of jelly bean fabric from one of our monthly drawings, now is the time to use it!

Not willing to take a risk with every mouthful? How about some fun potion bottles to put next to your cauldron?

Be sure to keep reading to see the new optional layouts for 2015!

Please send pattern corrections to ofenjen@fandominstitches.com

The variation below is included in this week's pattern.

The Project of Doom - A Harry Potter Quilt (2015 Layout)

It occurred to me when my ever-faithful pattern tester and friend, Amber, and I were discussing the possibility of rebooting The Project of Doom that I might just like to include a new layout.

What I've come up with for you is two new optional layouts with interchangeable parts.

These layouts allow for a lot of variation. If you desire a wider (or longer!) quilt, you can grow your quilt without a whole lot of extra effort. Please note that instructions are only included for the layouts as shown.

You will find instructions for Layout option 1 & 2, paper pieced Castle Corner & Crenelation blocks, and a printable quilt label, all in one file!

70” x 86”

Layout 1 is a sweet and simple castle to surround your bookcase. Follow the directions and amounts included or mix it up for your own unique look. Each block across the top is 10" for easy substitution.

70” x 86”

Layout 2 is the same size and general idea, but adds the option to add up to 13 more blocks! The sides include spots for 5" blocks for all those odds and ends from our Harry Potter page that you just couldn't fit in anywhere else. You can do the same top and center, or you can substitute a 10" block (as seen in the first example).

As always, I like to include the 2011 version for those of you that might prefer it. Please keep in mind all layouts are optional. You're free to get creative and make your Project of Doom quilt your own!

Ready to quilt but don't know what to do next?
