There And Back Again - Month 02

"At your service!" said Bifur, Bofur and Bombur standing in a row. Then they hung up two yellow hoods and a pale green one; also a sky-blue one with a long silver tassel. This last belonged to Thorin, an enormously important dwarf, in fact no other than the great Thorin Oakenshield himself...

"Now we are all here!" said Gandalf, looking at the row of thirteen hoods...

Welcome back!  We continue on our journey with Month 2.

Each Wednesday through November 2012, we will share a paper pieced quilt pattern that will all go toward one awesome Hobbit-themed quilt! At the end of the BOM, you will have 13 unique blocks and we will share finishing instructions. Your awesomely Hobbity quilt will measure approximately 37" x 37" if you use the layout we have created. Fabric choices are your own.

There And Back Again
Block of the Month

There and Back Again is a collaborative effort between four Fandom In Stitches designers, Michelle Thompson, Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir, Schenley Pilgram, and Jennifer Ofenstein.

This month's pattern has been designed for your stitching pleasure by Michelle Thompson.

All TABABOM patterns are paper pieced. A little lost? We have a full list of tutorials and other helpful information about paper piecing on our Help! page. If you have questions about the site or our Block of the Month, please check our FAQ page.

You can join us on our adventure by posting your photo of each month's block to the Fandom In Stitches flickr group. The first Tuesday of each month, a winner will be chosen at random from those participants that contributed photos. That winner will receive the prize donated by our awesome monthly sponsors!

Meet our November sponsor, Fandom Finery

Fandom Finery is an awesome shop that offers custom hand-stenciled fandom items like tees and totes, as well as key chains, phone charms and more!

Fandom Finery will be giving away one t-shirt, stenciled with the above graphic, designed just for our There and Back Again Month 2 winner! The winner will choose t-shirt color and size.

Remember, to be entered to win your own custom Hobbit t-shirt, courtesy of Fandom Finery, add your There and Back Again block photos to the Fandom In Stitches flickr group! Only photos from the flickr group that are posted in November will be eligible for the drawing.

  7. My husband was laughing at me. As soon as I saw this block I whipped out the book to check everyone's cloak color. I love that the designers did this too! If anyone is wondering Dwalin's is dark green, Balin's is scarlet, Kili and Fili are blue, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, and Gloin all show up at the same time bringing 2 purples, 1 grey, 1 brown, and 1 white cloak. Bifur and Bofur have yellow, Bombur has pale green, and Thorin has sky blue.

If you use our layout, the completed quilt will be approximately 37" x 37". The layout will be revealed once all the patterns have been posted.

  10. Thanks Jennifer! Since I have vowed to make every quilt for a year from my stash, the only time I get to buy fabric is the backs, it's my ultimate guilty pleasure :o) (I've made 5 quilts so far this year, as well as 2 table runners and a mini fall quilt I haven't finished yet)

  11. It's no problem! I usually yardage when I need a back, too, so I totally understand the idea of using what you've got.

  12. I am having some kind of error when I try to download the pattern for this block. I have't had problems with any other patterns. Is it possible the file is corrupted, or is the issue most likely on my end? Thank!
