Game of Thrones

Today we have some more House Sigils.

Baelish Sigil
House Baelish began with Petyr Baelish's great-grandfather, a sellsword from Braavos who worked for House Corbray (who were loyal to House Arryn). His son earned a minor lordship and a few acres of land. The seat is an unnamed old flint tower which commands no more than a few stony acres on the smallest of the Fingers. The holdings of House Baelish consists of a village of a dozen families in huts of piled stone beside a peat bog.

Petyr's father served well under Hoster Tully in the War of the Ninepenny Kings and in return Hoster Tully agreed to foster Petyr at Riverrun. Petyr fell in love with Catelyn Tully while Lysa Tully fell for him.  When Catelyn was betrothed to Brandon Stark, Petyr challenged him to a duel and was nearly killed.  It was only Catelyns intervention on his behalf that saved his life.  After this humiliation Petyr returned to the Vale of Arryn, Catelyn married Ned (Brandon having been killed by the Mad King), and Lysa married Jon Arryn.  Petyr used Lysa's infatuation to work his way up to the position of master of coin at Kings Landing.

The original sigil of House Baelish was a grey stone head with fiery eyes of the Titan of Braavos, on a light green field. It was selected by Petyr's grandfather when he was knighted, in honor of his father. As Petyr is the only living member he prefers to use his personal mockingbird sigil instead.

Baratheon Sigil
House Baratheon dates back to the Age of Heroes and was founded by King Durran I as House Durrandon.  They once ruled much of the eastern half of Westeros but their power started to wane before the War of Conquest.  At the time of the War of Conquest an elderly King Argilac ruled House Durrandon. He was defeated by Aegon Targaryen's fiercest general Orys Baratheon. Orys subsequently married Argilac's daughter Argella.  He then adopted his wife's sigil and words and House Baratheon was born.

The seat of House Baratheon is Storms End and is located along Shipbreaker Bay in the Stormlands.  It is one of the strongest castles in the seven kingdoms.  It is said to be protected by spells woven into the walls.  It has a massive outer curtain wall which is smooth and curving.  The castle is one huge drum tower that contains the granary, barracks, armoury, feast hall and lord's chambers.  It has never fallen to siege or storm.  Once Robert Baratheon became king he gave the castle to Renly and Stannis was sent to Dragonstone.  This created three branches of the Baratheon House - Kings Landing, Storms End and Dragonstone.

Lannister Sigil
The Lannister claim descent from legedary figure Lann the Clever.  Lann had tricked the Casterlys from their seat Casterly Rock.  A sub-branch was formed by the lesser branches of the family in Lannisport.  The keep at Casterly Rock was built atop a gold mine and this gold as well as other mines has made House Lannister the wealthiest of all the great Houses.  Their ancestral Valyrian sword Brightroar was lost when King Tommen II went on a quest to Valyria and never returned.

Casterly Rock is a fortress bui;t on a large rock beside the Sunset Sea.  The base has caverns carved by the seas and the lower parts of the rock have hundreds of mine shaft where there are still veins of gold.  The rock is said to be three times the height of the Wall. It contains tunnels, dungeons, storerooms, barracks, halls, stables, stairways, courtyards, balconies, gardens, a  godswood and a port with docks wharves and shipyards.

Clegane Sigil

House Clegane hold fealty to House Lannister and are among their primary bannerman.  Their lands are to the south of Casterly Rock.

The first knight of House Clegane was a Kennelmaster at Casterly Rock.  After rescuing Lord Tytos Lannister from a lioness he was granted lands and a towerhouse.  In doing this Ser Clegane lost a leg and three dogs. Tytos also took his son as his squire. This knight was the grandfather of Gregor and Sandor Clegane.  Their father died in a hunting accident shortly after Robert Baratheon was crowned.   Fate of both brothers is unknown Sandor (the Hound) was left for dead by Arya Stark and Gregor (The Mountain) apparently died of poison after a duel with Oberyn Martell but has been experimented on by a necromancer.
