Welcome to the #TFIOS Design Challenge!

We here at Fandom In Stitches are absolutely thrilled to share what is sure to be an AWESOME event with our devoted (and very talented!) readers.

It is our mission here at FiS to create quilts inspired by the things we love. We LOVE The Fault in Our Stars (#tfios), and let's be honest, pretty much every other word that has come from John Green, and it's high time that we turn that love into fabricy goodness!

This is where you come in. All designers, former, present and new are welcome!

The Challenge:
  • Create an original quilt block design inspired by The Fault in Our Stars. Please note: designs must be your creation and not based on the work of another artist. Collaborative efforts are okay.
  • Designs can range from 5" to 12" in size.
  • Designs can be any quilt-related technique or combination:  paper pieced, applique, embroidery, mosaic, cross-stitch, etc.
  • Designs can be images, words, etc., keeping in mind that all Fandom In Stitches patterns are PG-13.
  • Patterns can be drafted using drawing or quilting software or even hand-drawn, as long as they are clean and easy to understand. (More info)
  • All patterns should be check for errors before being submitted.
  • A photo of your completed block AND your pattern file are required to enter.
  • Patterns should be in PDF format (preferred for easier printing).
  • How To Enter:

    • Tag your photo #TFIOS and include the link to your pattern OR Email us your pattern file so we can share it here on FiS.
    • Please do not submit photos or patterns via comments or Facebook.
    • Include skill level out of 5 with your block photo (example 2/5 - see the top of any of our pattern pages for more information on how patterns are rated)
  • On Wednesday, October 23, 2013 we will post all of your fabulous designs right here on Fandom In Stitches! Visitors will be able to vote anonymously on his or her favorite.
  • The winner will be announced Tuesday, October 29, 2013.

  1. I have never read this! But since I generally love everything else on FiS, this must be a must-read! :)

    2. Well last night I finished up a quilt top at 2 AM (naturally), and I thought I would get a couple pages in to help me sleep. I promised myself I wouldn't get emotionally attached ("don'tcrydon'tcrydon'tcry"), as I knew it would be a difficult book. At 6 AM I finally finished it and went to sleep a big blubbery mess. I normally find it sacrilegious to mar a book in any way, but this one has already been dog-eared, underlined, and tearstained. I have one design completed and a couple more bouncing around in my head. I'm going to pass this on to my family to read, too. Thanks for the read!

  2. I haven't read it (yet) but my daughter is John Green mad so this made her day! I definitely see one of these quilts in my near future ;-) Really looking forward to seeing what all the talented designers out there come up with!

    1. We're hoping for lots of awesome designs, hopefully enough to create an entire quilt! If you feel inspired, maybe the two of you could collaborate on a design!
