Throwback Thursday: Harry Potter Style

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday on Fandom In Stitches

Occasionally, we will revisit our fandom roots by sharing an updated version of Harry Potter patterns from way back before Fandom In Stitches existed!

Today we share not just one pattern, but over 52! Many years ago, as part of an alphabetical block of the week, I created and shared the Harry Potter Title Font (U.S. & Movies) Alphabet. In addition to the alphabet, you can also find a small collection of punctuation on the Harry Potter page.

Use these 5" blocks to mix and match to make your own phrases, names, initials, etc! The Throwback Thursday banner was created doing just that!

Like all patterns shared during Throwback Thursday, this pattern was originally shared on Harry Potter Paper Piecing, a Livejournal community, and the predecessor to Fandom in Stitches.

Throwback Thursday: Harry Potter Style

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday on Fandom In Stitches

Occasionally, we will revisit our fandom roots by sharing an updated version of Harry Potter patterns from way back before Fandom In Stitches existed!

Today's pattern, Hagrid's Hut, is one of my earliest designs, both as a designer and for my then-growing collection of Harry Potter patterns. This is my version of the little wooden hut as described by J.K. Rowling and interpreted by by Warner Brothers.

Like all patterns shared during Throwback Thursday, this pattern was originally shared on Harry Potter Paper Piecing, a Livejournal community, and the predecessor to Fandom in Stitches.

At five to three they left the castle and made their way across the grounds. Hagrid lived in a small wooden house on the edge of the forbidden forest. A crossbow and a pair of galoshes were outside the front door.

Throwback Thursday: Harry Potter Style

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday on Fandom In Stitches! Each week, we revisit our fandom roots by sharing an updated version of Harry Potter patterns from way back before FiS was A Thing!

Today's pattern was originally inspired by chapter art of Mad Eye Moody from the American edition of Goblet of Fire created by Mary GrandPré. Mad Eye remains one of my favorite characters and he is rendered here in a simple but effective design. Looking at him now, I think a few embroidered lines would add to the cragginess of his face!

Like all patterns shared during Throwback Thursday, this pattern was originally shared on Harry Potter Paper Piecing, a Livejournal community, and the predecessor to Fandom in Stitches.

Updated Version, 2007 Version

The lightning had thrown the man's face into sharp relief, and it was a face unlike Harry had ever seen. It looked as though it had been carved out of weathered wood by someone who had only the vaguest idea of what human faces were supposed to look like, and was none too skilled with a chisel. Every inch of skin seemed to be scarred. The mouth looked like a diagonal gash, and a large chunk of the nose was missing. But it was the man's eyes that made him frightening.
One of them was small, dark and beady. The other was large, round as a coin, and a vivid, electric blue.

Throwback Thursday: Harry Potter Style

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday on Fandom In Stitches! Each week, we revisit our fandom roots by sharing an updated version of Harry Potter patterns from way back before FiS was A Thing!

This is one of the very few Harry Potter-themed blocks I personally designed did not spring to life right out of my very own noggin.

Instead, it was inspired by this now-classic image from Warner Brothers:

Throwback Thursday: Harry Potter Style

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday on Fandom In Stitches! Each week, we revisit our fandom roots by sharing an updated version of Harry Potter patterns from way back before FiS was A Thing!

Here we have one of my all-time favorite Harry Potter-themed blocks, The Knight Bus. After many requests, I've also included an additional version of the pattern with pieced wheels. Both patterns are in one document, link below.

Like all patterns shared during Throwback Thursday, this pattern was originally shared on Harry Potter Paper Piecing, a Livejournal community, and the predecessor to Fandom in Stitches.

There was a deafening BANG and Harry threw up his hands to shield his eyes against a sudden blinding light...

With a yell, he rolled back onto the pavement, just in time. A second later, a gigantic pair of wheels and headlights had screeched to a halt exactly where Harry had just been lying. They belonged, Harry saw when he raised his head, to a triple-decker, violently purple bus, which had appeared out of thin air. Gold lettering over the windscreen spelled The Knight Bus.

Throwback Thursday: Harry Potter Style

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday on Fandom In Stitches! Each week, we revisit our fandom roots by sharing an updated version of Harry Potter patterns from way back before FiS was A Thing!

This week we share what has always been a bittersweet design for me: Dumbledore's Half-Moon Spectacles. I designed his block after reading The Lightning Struck Tower.

Like all patterns shared during Throwback Thursday, this pattern was originally shared on Harry Potter Paper Piecing, a Livejournal community, and the predecessor to Fandom in Stitches.

Throwback Thursday: Harry Potter Style

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday on Fandom In Stitches! Each week, we revisit our fandom roots by sharing an updated version of Harry Potter patterns from way back before FiS was A Thing!

This week, we turn away from the funny brought to you by Merlin's Pants and straight into the scary.

Voldemort's Eyes was one of my earliest designs; not just Harry Potter, but in general. Here they are again, as creepy as ever and updated for 2014!
