Game of Thrones

After a fun week last week when I lost my hard drive on my computer and the backup failed.  I still have all my photos but no much else.

Today we have the House of Black and White.  The House of Black and White is the temple of the Many Faced God located in Braavos.  It is the home of the faceless men - a group of assasins. It sits on a small island in the lagoon of Braavos. 

It has no windows and only a pair of large doors at the front.  One is ebony and the other is weirwood. In the center of the doors is a carved moon face ebony on weirwood, weirwood on ebony. Its grey stone steps lead down to the dock.

Priests and Acolytes live on Level 1

Servants live on Level 2

The Holy Sanctum is on Level 3.  It is here the many faces used as disguises are kept. There are statues of 30 Gods around the large room.  In the centre of the floor is a large pool.
The water filling the pool is poisoned, and is given out to those who are suffering and come to the temple to seek the release of death.

Here we stand

House Mormont is sworn to House Stark.  Their seat is Bear Island located in the Bay of Ice far to the north-west of Winterfell.  Bear Island is beautiful, icy, cold and remote. The Mormont "castle" is a large, but a  wooden longhouse.  Bears prowl the woods of the island.

Their ancestral weapon of Valyrian steel is named Longclaw.  It now belongs to Jon Snow.

 The women of Bear Island are trained in the use of weapons and armor, as they are expected to defend hearth and home.

According to legend the Mormonts received their ancestral home from Rodrik Stark who won it in a wrestling match.

Jorah

Jeor Mormont fought with Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon against the Mad King. Following this he abdicated his lordship to his son Jorah and joined the Nights Watch.  Jorah earned fame during the Greyjoy Rebellion and the Tourney at Lannisport but was disgraced when he sold captured poachers to Tyroshi Slavers.  His title and lands were stripped by Ed Stark and he fled to the free cities to avoid justice.   Maege Mormont, Jeor's sister is current head of the family.

Tyrell Sigil

House Tyrell is one of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms.  It's wealth is only surpassed by House Lannister.  It has the greatest army and probably the greatest navy in the seven kingdoms.

Its seat is located at Highgarden in the Reach; which is located in the Southern part of Westeros south of Casterly Rock (The Lannisters), North of the Dorne (The Martells)  and West of Storms End (The Baratheons). 

The Tyrells trace their line from Garth The Gardener the first king of the Reach.  The Tyrells never ruled as kings but as steward to House Gardener.  House Gardener occasionally intermarried with House Tyrell or House Florent - both lower ranking houses.  This inter-maarioge eventually led to Tyrells taking control of the house and the seat.

House Tully

Just a short post today - as some of you may know my son was involved in an accident over the weekend he was kicked in the face at Soccer and lost his front teeth.  We spent most of Saturday in the Hospital and a good deal of today at the Orthodontist.  He is ok, his teeth are back in, he has many lacerations to his face, neck and chest and huge gashes in his palette and lip.  He is pretty sore and sorry.  He also got a dislocated finger.  He will have root canal on his front teeth on Wednesday - hopefully Insurance will cover as it will cost about $4,000.

Hopefully posts will be back to normal next Monday.

Sigil - House Martell

 House Martell

House Martells full name is Nymeros Martell of Sunspear denoting it is in the line of Nymeria.  It is located in South-Eastern Dorne at Sunspear.  Their words are Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken and their sigil is a combination of Nymeria's Sun and the Spear of the Martells.  House Martell was founded by an Andal Morgan Martell and led the defeat of the First Men in the area of the Greenblood River and the Broken Arm.  The Martells were not kings at this time but vassals of Kings from Houses Jordayne, Allyrion and Yronwood.  

During the Rhoynish Wars Nymeria the Rhoynish warrior queen invaded Westeros, married Mors Martell and united Dorne under their rule.  Under Rhoynish customs there was no King only a Prince and title passed to the oldest child regardless of gender.  The Palace at Sunspear was also built in Rhoynish fashion. 

During the War of Conquest the Martells remained unconquered and were independent for 200 years after the Targaryens united Westeros.  The Dornish eventually joined the Targaryens when King Daeron II married Myriah Martell and Prince Maron Martell married Daeron's sister Daenerys.

Elia Martell married Rhaegar Targaryen even though Tywin Lannister thought she should marry Jaime and Cersei marry Rhaegar.  Rhaegar subsequently "kidnapped" Lyanna Stark and Elia died at the hands of the mountain - Gregor Cleagane during the rebellion of Robert Baratheon.  

Following the murder of Joffrey Baratheon Oberyn Martell is killed by Gregor Clegane in a trial by combat for Tyrion Lannister.

Today we have the Sigil of the Second Sons.  

The Second Sons are a company of sellswords found in the free cities.  They take commands only from their captain.  They are amongst the oldest of the free companies. The names of every man to ever serve with them is written in a leather-bound book, with date they joined, where they fought, how long they served, and how they died - all in red ink.  This was traditionally blood but blood fades over time and was replaced with ink.
