Holiday Mail for Heroes

On behalf of Fandom In Stitches, we would like to invite you to support a fun, happy cause this holiday season: Holiday Mail for Heroes hosted by the Red Cross.

Rudolph
Click for: Holiday Favorites

We thought it would be AWESOME to use some of our fun, free fandom patterns and create holiday cards to send to U.S. soldiers. Not convinced? Watch the video.

Here is what you need to participate, straight from the Red Cross website:
Card Guidelines:
Every card received will be screened for hazardous materials and then reviewed by Red Cross volunteers working around the country.
Please observe the following guidelines to ensure a quick reviewing process:
  • Ensure that all cards are signed.
  • Use generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member.” Cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program.
  • Only cards are being accepted. Do not send or include letters.
  • Do not include email or home addresses on the cards: the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.
  • Do not include inserts of any kind, including photos: these items will be removed during the reviewing process.
  • Please refrain from choosing cards with glitter or using loose glitter as it can aggravate health issues of ill and injured warriors.
  • If you are mailing a large quantity of cards, please bundle them and place them in large mailing envelopes or flat rate postal shipping boxes. Each card does not need its own envelope, as envelopes will be removed from all cards before distribution.
All holiday greetings should be addressed and sent to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
The deadline for having cards to the P.O. Box is December 6th.
Holiday cards received after this date cannot be guaranteed delivery.

Here are some useful tutorials to get you on your way:

If you make one (or a bunch!) of cards, please share photos with our flickr group and share the quilted love you created.

Photos are posted to FiS every Tuesday. When you share your photos, you get a chance to win one our fabulous monthly prizes! Only photos posted to the flickr group are eligible to win, so be sure and share yours.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt by The Twi-Quilters

Our friends the Twi-Quilters are continuing in in their tradition of giving, and are proud to present their fourth charity quilt (and ninth group quilt!) and to give Twilight fans an opportunity to win this bit of Twilight memorabilia.

This quilt includes their favorite scenes from all four of the Twilight Saga books. The group members donated all fabrics and supplies as well as volunteering their time to create this unique quilt.

Many of these patterns can be found right here on Fandom In Stitches.

The quilt is expertly and artfully finished by quilter extraordinaire, Angie, and is a beautiful keepsake for any fan of the Stephenie Meyer series.

The best part? The Twi-Quilters are giving it away to one lucky fan!

For every $5 donation, which will go directly to George Mark Children's House, you will get one chance to win the quilt this gorgeous quilt!

Please generously to this worthy cause. Donations will be accepted through March 9, 2013 and the winner will be announced by March 15, 2013.

Help Our Designers Help Central Texas

Stars For Linus Quilt Block Drive

 Spread the love!

Fandom In Stitches Designers have a long history of helping out whenever we can. We've made quilts and quilt blocks for flood victims, earthquake survivors and fire victims in Australia. Many of us, myself included, regularly make quilts for local charities.

Help us help The Linus Connection as we try to meet the additional need for blankets created by the fires in Central Texas. Make a block and send it in, then copy and paste the above html to your blog or website and help spread the word! The image links back to my post on Sewhooked that explains everything.

and help families that have lost their homes to fire.

Help Fandom In Stitches make a difference.
