Stories from the Fandom in Stitches Community: Kerry (@kerrys_instadiary)

I cannot quite remember how I stumbled across the Fandom in Stitches website, but I was immediately hooked! I was wanting to learn how to quilt and had attended some community workshops to learn the basics but somehow heard of paper piecing and thought what a wonderful way to create images with fabric (and I had a lot of fabric that I didn't know what to do with). I think an internet search then brought up the Fandom in Stitches website and I couldn't believe the many, many projects there were available that I wanted to try! 

   

   

 

My first project was a combination of the Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit patterns to make a blanket. This was a project that I would start and put away again many times, whilst I did other projects in between. It took me a couple of years to complete. I put some embroidery of the elven language on The Ring. Eventually during Lockdown I finally had the time to turn it into a finished quilt. I put a panel on the back so that it could be used as a wall hanging too. This now hangs proudly in my study along with other LOTR crafts I have tried. The Smaug pattern has got to be, by far, my favourite!

I find the site is always great for gift ideas! I needed to get my sister a gift and so browsed the Fandom in Stitches website for ideas. I used the Mirabel Madrigal pattern to make a cushion for my sister. She is a teacher in a primary school and this lives on her chair at work. I particularly like the spectacles made from pipe cleaners! 

  

I also wanted to make a special gift for my husband who is a huge Stephen King fan, so made him a lap blanket of the carpet from The Shining! Again this has a panel at the back so it could also be used as a wall hanging. 

The designers and pattern creators on this site are so very very talented! And I think it's great that it's made available as a free resource. 

I think my next project will be the Gilmore Girls quilt!
