Fandom in Stitches Friday Feature: Holly Urbain

Welcome Fandom friends as we celebrate the Designers and Pattern Testers who make Fandom in Stitches a reality. As often as possible, we'll be sharing a Friday Feature of one of our amazing Designers or Pattern testers so you can get to know them better!

Want to design for us? Find out how here!

For today's Feature Friday, please welcome Designer & Tester, Holly Urbain!

Where Can We find You?

AS A DESIGNER:

What inspired you to start designing Fandom patterns? What was the first pattern you shared with our community?
"The POD- I never even heard of paper piecing until I found the Project of Doom site- I have a POD for my niece and I started making a marvel and another star wars quilt for my nephews and they asked for some designs that I could not find. My first design was the X-Wing."

What is your favorite kind of pattern to design?
"Cartoon Characters, Ships and Droids. Any full story series. I love the idea of combining a bunch of blocks for a theme quilt. Rankin Bass, Wreck it Ralph, Calvin and Hobbes and Peanuts! Broadway, Disney Horses, Willow, Incredibles, Minecraft, Percy Jackson and Disney Villain perfume bottles."

Favorite All-Time Fandom Design by you?
"Rankin Bass set (example was made by Linda Barnes). Rudolph is my favorite Christmas movie and the joy of Christmas is my favorite time of year."

Favorite non-fandom thing you've designed?
"My Nieces and Nephews faces for my mom- named it "ZOOMIN with Nana 2020""

Anything else you'd like for us to know?
"I need to thank all of the FIS testers community members as if I test a pattern myself, I see right past my errors and having a second set of eye helps me make a better design. I could not do it with out them!!! THANK YOU"
"When I am not sewing I am out on my motorcycle or freezing in the Wisconsin winters..."

AS A PATTERN TESTER:

What inspired you to start testing patterns for the Fandom in Stitches community? What was your first tested Fandom pattern?

"To learn how to create better designs. Learn how others create designs and make my own designs better."

Please give Holly some love in comments and let her know which of her patterns you've tried! If you post on social media, be sure to tag @tbasco33 & @fandominstitches so we'll see your awesome work!

  1. I have enjoyed every block that I have tested for you. Your Calvin and Hobbs came at a perfect time as I had a friend ask for a comic strip quilt. I knew Calvin was his favorite. Thanks for all you do.
