Fandom in Stitches Featured Friday: Laura Shaffstall

Welcome Fandom friends as we celebrate the Designers and Pattern Testers who make Fandom in Stitches a reality. As often as possible, we'll be sharing a Friday Feature of one of our amazing Designers or Pattern testers so you can get to know them better!

Want to design for us? Find out how here!

For our very first Feature Friday, please welcome Designer & Tester, Laura Shaffstall!

AS A DESIGNER:

What inspired you to start designing Fandom patterns?
"I took on learning to design because I had fallen in love with paper piecing and wanted specific additional patterns for a multi-fandom bookcase.  I had used up all my favors from friends so figured I should do it myself!! It becomes an addiction!"

What was the first pattern you shared with our community?
"The first patterns I shared with the site I think was for Hamilton or Moana."

What is your favorite kind of pattern to design?
"Which kind of pattern I design depends on my mood - I love creating individual blocks for bookcase quilts and have made many, but also like creating whole quilt layouts. "

Favorite All-Time Fandom Design by you?
"Hamilton"

Favorite non-fandom thing you've designed?
"Since I work with Military aircraft I like when I get the opportunity to create Jets!"

Anything else you'd like for us to know?
"I love mashing up patterns together!!"

AS A PATTERN TESTER:

What inspired you to start testing patterns for the Fandom in Stitches community?
"I was inspired after sewing my first Project of Doom to learn as much as possible!"

What was your first tested Fandom pattern?
"Liljab's Hunger Games and Kristi Lehane's Snape (Always) block"

Do you have a designer you test for the most?
"Gretchen Kohlhaas"

What's your favorite kind of pattern to test?
"I am always drawn to things Harry Potter or Disney related so tend to test those types of patterns.  I love testing blocks that give me a challenge."

What kind of non-fandom projects do you like to work on?
"I like to spin more traditional quilt blocks into fandom-centric themes.  Last year I used The Farmer's Wife 1930s patterns with only Harry Potter Fabrics!"

Please give Laura some love in comments and let her know which of her patterns you've tried! If you post on social media, be sure to tag Laura & @fandominstitches so we'll see your awesome work!
