UFOQAL2018 - Choose Your UFO Your Choice Quilt Along

Pull out those UFOs and join us for the Choose Your UFO Quilt Along! (#UFOQAL2017).

Welcome to our Second Annual Choose Your UFO Quilt Along!

If you're like me, you have more than one UFO waiting to receive some tender loving care!

The hardest part can be choosing a project to finish. To get you started, I wanted to share some of my own UFO finishing tips.

The biggest challenge can be simply getting organized!.

A fun way to keep track of your progress is to make a list or a UFO Board.

This is my version Progress Board, updated from last year's UFO event.

This year, I have some new categories, like Pending Projects and Quilted for Others.

While I don't keep a list of everything I make, I do like to add finished projects that aren't necessarily quilting, but felt like Big Finishes!

My Project Board is a simple piece of poster board with lines drawn in Sharpie for each section I needed.

Helpful hints to get Organized:

  • Make your own project board! Use a poster board, chalk board, dry erase, etc.
  • Make a list of projects. If you want to make a board like mine, pull out those Post-Its and give each project it's own page. I like to date mine so I know when the project was started.
  • To keep from overwhelming yourself, focus on getting to the next step of one project at a time instead instead of thinking of ALL the things needed to be done.
  • Pick ONE project and work on finishing whatever step it's on.
  • If you're paper piecing, consider pre-cutting your background fabric into various width strips for more manageable pieces to work with.
  • To maximize sewing time, sort individual blocks to be made with pattern and fabric together in a large zip bag (I like 2 gallon zipper bags). Background fabric can be kept separate for larger projects.
  • If you feel like you don't have enough time to sew, try sewing just one seam whenever you have five minutes. You'll be amazed at how much you can get done.
  • Work on one step at a time (I'm going to keep repeating this one!).
  • Take a breath and celebrate the little finishes!
What UFOs do you hope to finish during our event?

  1. My UFOs aren't very organized right now but I hope to go through them and choose the first one I want to finish for the QAL is my nephew's POD. I do have my board up similar to yours but haven't updated it in a few months.
