The White Walkers (or the Others) are the big unknown in Game of Thrones.
According to legend they appeared 8,000 years before Westeros was conquered by Aegon Targaryen and his sisters. They were defeated by the Nights Watch supposedly and the Wall was raised to keep them out of Westeros. Legend has it that the Night's King married a White Walker. Most in Westeros believe them to be nothing more than fairy stories designed to frighten children. Those killed by White Walkers return as the living dead or Wights. After the Battle of The Fist of The First Men where the Nights watch were attacked by Wights - the White Walkers stopped being myth and became reality. The only way to kill them appears to be Dragon Glass (Obsidian) of Valyrian steel. The oncoming threat of the White Walkers may unite Westeros to save itself.
White Walkers have pale blue/grey skin and piercing blue eyes. They have a skeletal/emaciated bodies and often ride undead horses. Some have long white wispy hair while others have no hair and horns. They are able to raise the dead and convert babies into other white walkers.
