Today we have some blocks from the Targaryen Family. Targaryen's sigil is a three-headed red dragon on a black background, and their words are "Fire and Blood".
House Targaryen was once a noble family of Valyria. The island of Dragonstone was its seat. After Valyria was destroyed by the doom of volcanoes and earthquakes, the Targaryens set their sights on Westeros. Using their three dragons (Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes) Aegon and his two sister/wives (Visenya and Rhaenys) conquered 6 of the 7 independant Westerosi Kingdoms. They set up their seat in Kings landing and ruled for centuries.
The last Targaryen King was Aerys. He married his sister Rhaella. He named Tywin Lannister his hand. Tywin served in this role for 20 years.
After his imprisonment for several months during the Defiance of
Duskendale uprising Aerys showed increasingly erratic behaviour. He became suspicious about Tywin Lannister's ambition and had Kings Guard Captain Ser Ilyn Paynes tongue cut out when he made a joke that Tywin was the real ruler. Tywin
had hoped to marry his daughter Cersei to Prince Rhaegar. Aerys viewed
Tywin as a servant so organised Rhaegar to marry Elia Martell of Dorne
instead and appointed Jaime Lannister to his kingsguard to rob Tywin of
his preferred heir. Aerys also fancied Tywins wife Joanna. Tywin resigned after these slights. His marriage deteriorated and towards the end and he savagely raped his wife on many occasions. He didn't cut his hair or nails, rarely ate and never left the castle.
On the one occassion that he did leave the castle Aerys went to a tourney at Harrenhal. Rhaegar won the tournamant and he proceede to ignore his wife and give flowers to Lyanna Stark instead. Soon after the tourney, Lyanna was abducted by Rhaegar. Lyanna had already been promised to Robert Barratheon. Her older brother Brandon postponed his wedding to Catelyn Tully and rode instead to Kings Landing. Rhaegar was not there and Brandon and his companions were arrested by the Mad King. Rickard Stark arrived to ransom his son. Rickard was burned alive and his son Brandon was killed by a Tyroshi strangling device. A longsword was placed just outside of his reach and he strangled himself in an attempt to reach the sword and save his
father.
Next, Aerys called for the heads of Robert Baratheon and Eddard Stark. Jon Arryn refused to give them up and war ensued. It lasted about a year. As the war drew to an end Prince Rhaegar and Robert Baratheon met in single combat on a ford of the Trident. Robert killed Rhaegar with a blow to the chest from his warhammer. It was not until this time that Robert announced his desire to take the throne.
As he was wounded fighting Rhaegar, Robert gave his command to Eddard Stark.Tywin Lannister who had remained neutral during the entire war turned up at Kings landing and claimed loyalty to Aerys. Unfortunately for Aerys it was all a ruse and the Lannister army sacked the city. Aerys ordered Jaime Lannister to kill his father. He killed Aerys instead. Ser Gregor Clegane killed Rhaegar's son Aegon and then raped and murdered Elia Martell. Ser Amory Lorch killed Rhaegar's daughter Rhaenys. Eddard was not happy at the death of the children he called it murder and left to search for his sister. Ser Arthur Dayne, Ser Oswell Whent and Gerald Hightower were found guarding Lyanna. Of the 6 companions that Eddard took with him only Howland Reed survived the rescue attempt. Lyanna died in Eddard arms after making her a solemn promise and in a pool of blood. The circumstances are unknown.
Rhaella Targaryen and her son Viserys escaped to Dragonstone with Ser Willem Darry. Rhaella died giving birth to Daenerys nearly nine months later. With Stannis Baratheon about to attack Viserys and Daenerys were smuggled by loyalists to Braavos.
