It was a Valyrian Steel Great Sword. After Ned Starks Execution (with his own sword) Tywin Lannister had it reforged as Long Swords for Jamie and Joffrey.
Jamie gave his Sword to Brienne of Tarth and she named it Oathkeeper.
Joffrey named his sword Widows Wail. It was a wedding present from his Grandfather. The Sword has now passed to Tommen.
