The Project of Doom - 2015

The Project of Doom 2015 Quilt Along on Fandom In Stitches photo PoD2015ComingSoon_zpsf2dd6a6c.jpg

It is with GREAT EXCITEMENT that we announced The Project of Doom 2015 Quilt Along!

This award winning (no joke!) paper pieced Harry Potter Bookcase Quilt is by far our most popular project here on Fandom In Stitches.  We've had repeated requests to bring it back as a community-wide project...So, we are!

To make this BIG project more doable, we'll be making one block a week starting on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, and more importantly, we'll be doing it TOGETHER.

Whether this is your first Project of Doom or your fifth, we encourage you to stitch along with us.

Never finished your original Project of Doom? Use this Quilt Along as an excuse to get it out and get stitching again!

Want to make blocks, but don't need a whole quilt? We'll be collecting blocks all year long to make fun charity quilts for The Linus Connection, which provides quilts for kids in crisis Central Texas!

Fabric:  You will need the same background fabric throughout the entire quilt, and I recommend something neutral, a tone on tone beige, gray, or similar, anything that will make the block designs stand out. You'll need approximately 3 yards of background fabric. That leaves a lot of wiggle room for mistakes and for your own style of paper piecing. All other fabrics for the actual blocks will be small amounts. You can work from scraps or start collecting fun, magical fat quarters, batiks, etc. This quilt uses approximately 1 yard of sashing fabric and 1 yard of border fabric, but I recommend waiting on that until you see how your blocks turn out to decide what you want.

Did you miss making this quilt with the community the first time around?
It's time to get out your fabric and PLAY!

Last, but not least, when you make the blocks as designed and share photos with our Flickr group, we will have special Harry Potter-themed prizes that you can win, with a new prize awarded each month!

Will you be playing along? Leave us a comment and let us know!

    2. Will the blocks be released in the same weekly order as the first PoD QAL? I'm trying to make a strategy for fabric acquisition since my stash is kind of low at the moment. Thanks!

  16. Don't know that I can face it again - the first one was such a labour of love with all that hand embroidery. I loved every minute but......

  17. I have been dieing to make this quilt, and I think I finally figured out who to make it for. My nephew is a die hard Harry Potter fan, and though he has nine and ten year old boys and is a quilter himself, he doesn't like paper piecing. Gasp!! Horrible!!! No problem, I can make it for him. cdahlgren at live dot com

  19. I've been needing to get back to my HP: PoD quilt blocks. This should be just what I need. I didn't know how to paper piece, and didn't even know about the PoD quilt when ya'll did it last time. What fun! Count me in!

  23. I am going to try and do this if at all possible. The first time I saw this quilt I was spellbound, (pun intended), I could not believe something like that was even possible with fabric. I had not even heard of paper piecing at the time. My whole family has always been huge Harry Potter fans, we even have a Harry Potter room painted like a castle, with all the knick- knacks and collectible toys set up in it. It looks like a daunting project for someone like me, who is a medium skill level paper piecer, but I know that I will more likely complete it in a group setting as that is very motivating. Thank you for all of the amazing patterns!

  26. I'm in. I've never paper pieced before, and I have a new baby at home, but I'm going to try to manage it. I LOVE Harry Potter and can't wait to read them to my daughter. This quilt will eventually be hers.
